The first electricalconnection between a ship moored in the port and a Natural Gasengine installed on the quayside took place on 15th December in the Port of Barcelona. This new engine replaces the boat’s auxiliary engines used during operations in port.
This innovative activity, known as cold-ironing, is part of the Core LNGas hiveproject, coordinated by Enagás and co-financed by the European Union.
Suardiaz, as a project partner, has adapted the ship L´Audace, which currently operates the Barcelona – Canary Islands line, for this project.
The aim of cold-ironing, in which it is a pioneer in Europe, is to reduce emissions from ships berthed in ports.
Suardiaz therefore continues to be actively involved in research and development, always under its commitment to the environment.
